Vers l’an mil, dans le sillage d’Éric le Rouge, les Vikings s’installent au Groenland. Ces colons sont confrontés à l’isolement loin de la chrétienté, aux peuples autochtones, à la dureté du climat. Leur trace se perd vers la fin du XVe siècle.
