A bit of history...
A by-product of parachuting, paragliding saw the light of day in 1978 in the mountains at Mieussy, a small village 40 kilometres from Annecy, through the "Club des Choucas".
It developed very quickly in particular on the Semnoz Mountain above Annecy where the first "Annecy Slope Gliding" school came into existence.
Since the date, the activity has developed very quickly and paragliding has become an aerial sport in its own right across the world.
Talloires & Montmin: the Mecca of paragliding!
Thanks to its location, ease of access, the number of flights possible, the air conditions, and the panoramic views Talloires is become the leading paragliding centre in Europe.
If we lift our eyes to heaven when standing near the lake we can see the paragliders, like multi-coloured spots in the sky.
Paragliding sites
TAKE OFF PLANFAIT
Oriented : West, South-West.
Access from Talloires : direction Col de la Forclaz, at the village of Verel turn left and follow the "Forêt Aventure" signs.
Height : 950 meters
Flying conditions : easy take off except in case of side wind.Area covered with a plastic cloth. Thermic flight, cross departure.
Dangers and difficulties: the site is often overcrowded.
TAKE OFF MONTMINT
Col de la Forclaz.
The access is regulated, only hang-gliders, disabled persons, pupils in training course supervised by schools can reach the summit by car. Information for the cards of access to the City hall of Doussard. The access on foot is possible for the pilots and the spectators.
TAKE OFF COCHE CABANE
Accessible from a path since the Col de la Forclaz, quieter than Montmin.
TAKE OFF GRAND-BORNAND LACHAT
Altitude : 2050m.
It is suitable with wind directions from Se to W.
This site offers a lot of task possibilities over Aravis chain and towards Lake Annecy.
LANDING PERROIX
Orientation : North / South
GPS : 45°50'55" N - 06°12'51" E Height 540m
Recommendations :
It is prohibited to fly over houses in the South of the terrain.
Respect the sense of landing (PTU left hand over the ZAC)
Not cross fields to join car parks or restaurant.
Not park near the accesses fire brigades and on car parks reserved for the residents.
Access : follow the D909 above Talloires
Observations :
The zone of Perroix has 3 schools / stores, campsites, hotels, a bar and a fast food and a center of repair of sails.
LANDING DOUSSARD
Orientation : North / South
GPS : 45°46'51" N - 06°13'19" E Height 460m
Recommendations :
Landing very frequented during the high season, the attention on the other users (paraglidings, Deltae, Kites).
Do not make inflatings on the zones of landings paraglidings and deltae.
Kites have to line up behind the multi-purpose hall.
Respect the PTU of approach Paraglidings and Deltae (see the regulations and the plans on panels)
Access :
Since Annecy, direction to Bout du Lac, then direction of Doussard and to take the 1st on the right.
Observations :
Big car park, small bar and fast food in season.
Articles of hang-gliding.
LANDING MARLENS
Orientation : North / South
GPS : 45°45'45" N - 06°20'27" E Height 450m
Recommendations :
Electric lines near, strong breezes in the middle of the day.
Respect zones reserved for car parks and not cross fields to join them.
Access :
From 4 km of Faverges in the direction of Ugine.
Car park in the crossing of the road Faverges / Ugine.
Observations :
The zone " Espace Marlens " has a shelter, a school and a shop.
The Paragliding sites of the Lake are managed by the SIVUHL (Syndicat intercommunal à vocation unique des Hauts du Lac).
For the organization of training courses SIV (Simulation of incident of flight), ask to local schools.
